UNAA is pleased to welcome the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) and the Africa Travel Association (ATA) Tourism in Uganda is focused on Uganda's landscape and wildlife. Uganda has a very diverse culture, landscape, flora, and fauna. In the late 1960s, Uganda had a prosperous tourist industry with 100,000 visitors each year. Tourism was the country's fourth largest earner of foreign exchange. The tourist industry ended in the early 1970s because of political instability. By the late 1980s, Uganda's political climate had stabilized and conditions were suitable for reinvestment in Uganda's tourist industry. However, the loss of charismatic wildlife in previously popular safari parks such as Murchison Falls National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park prevented these parks from competing with similar tourist attractions in neighboring Kenya and Tanzania - until recently. As a result of aggressive restocking, restoration and conservation programs, Uganda is once again proud to feature a large and diverse population of wildlife in different parts of the country, including all of the "big five." Popular tourist destinations are once again hosting record numbers of visitors including many locals from within Uganda. UNAA is pleased to welcome the Uganda Tourism Board, the Uganda Wildlife Authority and the Africa Travel Association to the 26th Annual Convention of the Ugandan North American Association. For over 15 years the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB)has served the country in ensuring the success and growth of tourism in Uganda. The world over, the board is marketing and promoting the Pearl of Africa, highlighting the true nature, culture, wildlife, accommodation and hospitality packed into a country that is "Gifted by Nature." The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA)is a semi-autonomous government agency that conserves and manages Uganda's wildlife for the people of Uganda and the whole world. UWA is mandated to ensure sustainable management of wildlife resources and supervise wildlife activities in Uganda both within and outside the protected areas. With 10 national parks and 12 wildlife reserves under its jurisdiction, UWA's role in managing the country's tourism industry and attracting investors to the sector has been a significant one. It also manages five community wildlife management areas and 13 wildlife sanctuaries. The Africa Travel Association (ATA)is the leading global trade association promoting travel and tourism to Africa and strengthening intra-Africa partnerships. Established in 1975, ATA serves both the public and private sectors of the international travel and tourism industry. ATA membership comprises African governments, their tourism ministers, tourism bureaus and boards, airlines, cruise lines, hotels, resorts, front-line travel sellers and providers, tour operators and travel agents, and affiliate industries. ATA partners with the African Union Commission (AU) to promote the sustainable development of tourism to and across Africa. ATA's annual events in Africa and the United States bring together industry leaders to shape Africa's tourism. ATA's 39th Annual World Congress will be held in Uganda from November 11-16, 2014 UTB, UWA and ATA will participate and make focused presentations during the Trade and Investments Forum which will take place on Friday August 29th from 9 AM to 5 PM.
All three organizations will continue to present their message promoting tourism in Uganda throughout the duration of the convention.Anyone interested in learning first-hand about opportunities promoting tourism in Uganda is invited to attend the UNAA Convention and most specifically the Trade and Investments Forum on the first day.
