Uganda's National Ladies team put up a heroic display while ripping apart Palestine 3-1 in the third round of the World Chess Olympiad in Tromso, Norway on Monday 4 August 2014.

Olympiad debutant Christine Namaganda eked out a tremendous result on board one beating Faqih Yara as WCM Ivy Amoko continued with winning form beating Jehad Mohamed Rahaf and Grace Kigeni wrapped it up with a win against Faqeeh Aseel. WCM Phiona Mutesi was unlucky to lose against Anwar Al-Bzoor.

While the ladies were having a field day, their male counterparts felt the heat falling 3-1 at the hands of superior opposition in Faroe Island whose 2507 rated Ziska Helgi Dam gave IM Elijah Emojong no chance as Patrick Kawuma and Arthur Ssegwanyi also fell at the hands of IM Rodgaard John and Nielsen Hogni. FM Harold Wanyama was the Ugandan hero on the night pulling one back after claiming the scalp of a 2322 rated International Master in Nilssen John Arni.

In the fourth round the Ugandan ladies will be up against more formidable opposition in South Africa while the men will be jumping from the frying pan into fire as they head for a mouth watering clash against Ireland, which has a Grandmaster and three IMs.
