{UAH} Why UDU and The Hague Process don't want war in Uganda
Ugandans in the opposition at home and abroad want change of NRM regime. But there is disagreement about the strategy. There are those who want to invade the country and overthrow the NRM government and install another military regime. This group is led by David Sejusa and Duncan Kafero who are probably working together because members of Ugandans to the Rescue (UTR) led by Duncan Kafero attended the Sejusa sponsored, hurriedly and secretly convened conference in London in December 2013 that created the Freedom and Unity Front (FUF). FUF collapsed in July. At about the same time Sejusa announced the creation of a military coalition with him as chair to topple the NRM regime by military means.
The United Democratic Ugandans (UDU) and The Hague Process (hereinafter THP) are strongly opposed to another war to change the current regime in the first instance. Regime change in Uganda by military means starting in 1971 has only made matters worse. The current global trend is to defeat authoritarian governments by non-violent means. The record shows that some 70 percent of authoritarian regimes have been removed by non-military means.
We don't like war because it means destruction of innocent lives. It brings tears to mothers when their children go to war and lose their lives. War is a heartbreaker.
The 20th century witnessed two World Wars, a string of genocides and state induced famines, killing between 100 and 200 million people (Morris 2014). UDU and THP don't want a repeat of 20th century killings in Uganda or elsewhere.
