{UAH} NO TRICKS: Fishermen using kaveera as condoms

Fishermen using kaveera as condoms

Due to shortages of condoms, some fishermen have resorted to using plastic bags (kaveera) fastened with rubber bands says MP Lulume Bayiga of the parliamentary forum for fishing communities.

He says Ministry of Health imports only 20 million condoms per month. Of Uganda's estimated 34 million population, 20 million are sexually active. That entitles only one condom per person per month.

So rather risk HIV/AIDS and STI infections, fishermen in the fishing villages of Kiyindi, Katosi, Senyi are buying the small white plastic bags (like the ones used for packaging food items such as sugar, rice etc) as 'condoms'
