"Songs and plays capture history and historical events" – President Museveni
President Yoweri Museveni has said that songs and plays are important tools that capture history and historical events adding that he was ready to partner up and support Ugandans in the music industry to promote their talents and capture as many historical events as possible for purposes of passing them on to future generations.
The President made the remarks while addressing Western Uganda musicians and artist who are united under their organization Umbrella of Western Entertainment Association that was held yesterday at Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara Municipality.
He also noted that songs and plays are important educational and sensitization tools especially about traditional culture and adding that elders needed to tell the youth more stories and educate them about different songs and plays so that they are captured and passed on to the future generations.
He called for the modernization of traditional music instruments to cope with the current situation and challenges. He said that he had told Kyambogo University to do that.
He thanked the Patron of the Western Uganda Entertainment Association musicians and artistes, General Elly Tumwine for uniting and organizing the artistes. He pledged Shs.50 million to the artistes' SACCO.
On his part, Gen. Tumwine urged all people not to sit on their talents noting that everyone was a potential artiste. ENDS
