{UAH} Mecca in the 1800s and Early 1900s
Mecca in the 1800s and Early 1900s
2.The Ka'bah during a flood in 1941
3.Tawaf by swimming during the flood of 1941.Floods didn't prevent the people from performing Tawaf which happens 24/7. I believe it only happened once when someone held Ka'ba and the pilgrims hostage during the late 1970's
4.Little known fact, the Ka'bah used to have a few structures close to it, including a mimbar, which were removed in the early 1900s to provide more room for tawaf. There were also 4 mihrabs for each madhhab to have there salah. The good old days before Wahhabis! As we are speaking, the Turkish part of the building around Kaaba is being destroyed with bulldozers, no preservation whatsoever! As for the buildings around Kaaba to disappear like that without preservation makes me wonder when are we going to have a committee of expert Muslims from different countries in the field of preservation, history and heritage to decide on the fate of Mecca and Medina.
5.A rare color photo of the Kaaba in the early 1900s. They say that the buildings close to the Kaaba had to be removed because the number of Muslims visiting Makkah became so large that tawaf (circling) around the Kaaba became almost impossible.
This era was a time of extreme madhab (school of legal thought) arrogance and difference, and thus there were actually four salahs that would take place at the same time. One for each madhab. You can see the small mihrabs for each of the madhabs in this picture.
The four Mehrabs were to honor the schools of thoughts, and arrogance is definitely an oxymoron term to be used with Madhab. Unity in our religion is through diversity. There was more tolerance at that time...4 school of thoughts i.e. Maaliki, Hanbali, Shaafaii,Hanafi are 4 streams that connects to the main river of Love of Allah and Rasool Allah Sallallaho Alayhe Wasallam. All of the 4 imams are righteous pious people. There are no differences on basic principles and Aqaaid. The only difference is the way to perform different activities i.e Performing Salah. Therefore,Rasool Allah Sallallaho Alayhe Wasallam said that these differences in my ummah are blessings....... In the times of Islamic Khalifah he used to have tolerance against all the Muslim and every muslim was respected, each and every religious place was respected, unlike recent Saudi Govt who just imposed heir own brand of islam on everyone
6.The Ka'aba in 1937
7.Makkah in 1907
8.The Ka'bah in 1910
9.The Kaaba in 1951.
10.The Ka'ba and the surrounding hills in the 1800s.
