{UAH} New rebel group sets up base in Rwenzori

The Kasese Resident District Commissioner (RDC) has claimed that there is a newly formed rebel group with bases in DR Congo that plans to attack Uganda.
Maj James Mwesigye, who is also the chairperson of the district security committee, claimed that the new rebel group, Sikilyamuba (the cowards don't eat) has joined arms with the Esyomango (vigilant youth) led by Mr Vincent Kapirongo that have infiltrated the Rwenzori region.
The RDC hinted that the rebel groups comprise youth who were part of the attackers during tribal clashes that rocked Rwenzori region in July and were granted pardon.

"We shall clear them should they dare to attack," Maj Mwesigye warned.
"Government was so lenient to give them amnesty after the July 5 attacks but this time, no compromise," the RDC told the Rwenzururu kingdom premier, Mr Enock Muhindo during Independence Day celebrations at Rwenzori square.
Maj Mwesigye urged the Rwenzururu Kingdom to dissuade its people from taking up arms against government as the quickest way to defuse a looming rebellion and create a peaceful environment for development.
"I want to warn you to go back to your people and reorganise them in advance before the situation gets out of hand. You can joke with politics but you will never joke with the security of the country. We shall use the coercive forces to defend the state," Maj Mwesigye vowed.
The Rwenzururu kingdom spokesperson, Mr Edward Makanika, said he was travelling and could not comment while Mr Muhindo did not take repeated calls yesterday.

The Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) confirmed the existence of the rebel group and that intelligence had intercepted information about it's planned activities. "We are ready for them this time if they want to do what they did on July 5. We have the machinery to work on them as we have started to reach their bases," UPDF Rwenzori region spokesperson, Captain Ceaser Olweny, remarked.
The Kasese District Police Commander, Mr Bob Kagarura, said police had arrested two commanders and some suspects.

Call on residents

The RDC tasked the administrator of the kingdom to "revise their actions." He reminded the kingdom of the 1980 agreement signed by the Omusinga Wesley Mumbere not to use guns while agitating for kingdom demands. He said instead of fighting each other Kasese residents should unite to engage in farming.
