{UAH} POST INDEPENDENCE HEROES

A lot is said to our national heroes who fought for our national independence starting with Omukama Kabalega, Kabaka Mwanga, Chief Awich, batakas; Joshua Kate Mugema, Perez kabazzi Miti, Ssemakula mulumba, Ignatius Musaazi, Abu Mayanja, Jolly Joe Kiwanuka, Ben Kiwanuka, Milton Obote etc....
It is high time we also considered those who spear headed the second or third liberation including President Yoweri Museveni, Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda and others. Rugunda was very senior as by 1971 he was President of National Union of Students of Uganda, and he was the one who linked radical youths like John Patrick Amama Mbabazi to Yoweri Museveni in the FRONASA struggle against Idi Amin regime.
No wonder in UNLF Government he was Deputy Minister for Health.
Equally Mbabazi, due to efforts of the then State Minister and later full Minister for Defence, Yoweri Museveni, he became Legal Commissar in the defunct Uganda National Liberation Army and rose to Secretary for Defence. Rugunda participated in 1985 talks in Nairobi and upon NRM victory was appointed Health Minister. Equally Amama was a founder Director General of ESO in 1986/7. So Rugunda is more senior.
