As a matter of agency, let all slums in Uganda be eliminated in a
year, if we are to celebrate our faculties, independence of thought
and political maturity.
What does it cost to set up a habitable human settlement than buying a
Mercedes Benz with no returns or benefit to society?
Slums are habitats of inconvenience due to lack of many capacities,
resources, abilities and opportunities. Choice is limited and dwellers
live in misery in constant want and need.
The first indication of mental incapacitation among African political
class, is allowing fellow Africans live into deplorable conditions in
slums where thousands of citizens dwell and eke a hand to mouth life
style with basic amenities and utilities which are well beyond their
reach.
It is heartening
Their suffering if cannot trigger revulsion in a human being then the
spectator must have very serious problems and no less than a soliatry
wide animal. You sleep in warm bed, mosquito free Munyonyo, Kololo,
Ntida etc but you miss the feeling of; marginality, sadness, endless
struggle, loss and yearning in slums – how else can one define you and
your mental disposition – this as part of human nature is where
empathy is elevated to religiosity to define you as a human being
rather than a wild animal.
