{UAH} Acoli can Raise the Heights
Dr. Otim Ochan
Post this to Acoli net
Travelling through Acoli land one can't help to marvel at the enormous riches of this land that are unexploited. Equally so is the isolated villages hosting tens of Ugandans living on the margins. This is sad, but an opportunity to solve standing poverty issues if everybody put his mind into it. There are a lot of rent free seeking individuals (capitalists) and they will not blink investing in Acoli so is the army.
There is need for one replica of an Acoli government up here - call it federo. This Acoli government should also invoke native rights to land and stop land fragmentation recklessness going on in Buganda and appended land conflicts.
In the same vein, one can't fail to notice enclaves of developments here and there, that should be consolidated into one strong move to create what I have talked about as urban villages - small in size neighborhoods but able to accommodate a well organised society of a contemporary western educated Ugandan here up north.
As a matter of fact - as South Sudan staggers into nationhood more inventories, stocks in terms factory production and education resources are moving here. Not to mention greenly and adventurer seeking tourist bringing massive resources. Gulu hotels are on a daily basis booked up!
For instance in Amuru - the oil and gas companies are digging in and settling here but all that you can see are people sleeping in tents. There is need to invest in organised human settlement. Modest houses can cost 25 million per unit and will all be consumed by oil companies at once.
The Acoli government if there was one would be capitalising on these gains to build a well organised human settlement, society and neighborhoods and then everything else will follow. i guess and it is my hope that Gulu University is going to become a center of excellence in research and science - then the society should be elevated to that level of scientific practice. Even then organised urban villages, will increase production several folds over to spur growth in agro-produce and appended production units- Acoli must think hard. Hope Prof. Latigo is focused on this ball politics aside.
In fact if there is anyone who wishes to work with me – we can explore an organised human settlement to cater for housing deficits. We need to have a small document from local officials outlining need for houses and then we can see how we can work to do the needful.
