RwandAir has been named among the safest airlines in the world by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The national carrier was awarded a certificate of safety worthiness after passing the IATA operational audit (IOSA) making RwandAir eligible to fly to any part of the world.

IATA vice-president, Raphael Kuuchi said that the country's aviation industry is set to play an important role in Rwanda's economic development. This was during a handing over of the certificate at the Kigali International Airport.

This recognition also allows RwandAir to enter into code share deals with five-star airlines without any restrictions.

The IATA audit is a globally recognised evaluation system that evaluates the operational management and control systems of an airline.
