Ugandan intelligence personnel on Wednesday night raided the residence of a Kampala businessman in Lweza Zone in Makindye for reportedly being the main link between exiled Coordinator of Intelligence organs, Gen David Sejusa and subversive elements in the country.

Mr Francis Butto Matovu, 38, refused to open his gate, compelling police to wait from outside his residence up to 9:00am.

Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the arrest.

"Yes, he was arrested today morning," said Onyango.

Matovu was apprehended as soon as his lawyer Michael Mabikke arrived at the former's house and later detained at Kajjansi Police station.

Onyango later told Chimpreports that the suspect had been transfered to Katwe Police station.

He refused to shed more light on the case in fear of jeopardising investigations.

Sources said security has been trailing Matovu for the last few months and monitoring his transactions before closing in on him.

Security recently took Matovu to the CMI headquarters in Mbuya where he was grilled for several hours over his ties with the renegade General.

Matovu denied channeling money to Sejusa.

Before fleeing to UK, Sejusa had plotted to assassinate president Museveni by trying to penetrate the Special Forces Command and also have access to classified information about the elite force's strength and logistical capabilities.

Since April, Sejusa has been threatening to topple President Museveni from power by use military means.

Museveni challenged Sejusa to attack his bases, saying, "he knows my address. Let him come."

CMI boss Brig Charles Bakahumura was in August quoted as saying Matovu was allegedly recruiting youths to join Gen Sejusa's subversive activities, charges he denies.
