Basic Function
This role will involve providing technical support to the HealthyGenes project which will involve multiple visits to commercial dairy farms to conduct body condition scoring, locomotion scoring, blood sampling, and recording of additional phenotypic variables. Training will be provided in all techniques/procedure's required.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Assist in compiling standard operating procedures and related documentation (SOPs) for various animal scoring techniques and sampling procedures
•Partake in data recording training as required throughout 2015 beginning in January 2015.
•Completion of up to 500 farm visits over 2015 for the purposes of recording cow phenotypic data e.g. body condition scores, locomotion scores etc.

Person Specification
Essential
•Candidates must have a Level 6 qualification in farm / animal management or a related discipline.

Desirable
•A Level 7 qualification in a scientific discipline would be a distinct advantage

Basic Function
This post doctoral scientist will have PhD in Process Engineering, Food Technology, Electronic Engineering or related discipline.
The appointee will work as part of a team responsible for PAT tools in milk concentration, milk powder manufacture and cheese manufacture, with the main aim of improving product quality and safety in the manufacture of dairy products.

Duties & Responsibilities specific to this project:
•To develop and apply online monitoring technology to dairy manufacturing processes
•To prepare experimental trials for the validation of PAT technology
•To liaise with the Pillar leader and with appropriate instrumentation suppliers and other leading centres of excellence in the field of Process Analytical Technology

Person Specification
Essential
PhD in Process Engineering, Food Technology, Electronic Engineering or related discipline
Relevant research experience not to exceed 3 years' post-PhD

Desirable
•Strong knowledge of dairy manufacturing processes (including spray drying and cheese manufacture), online spectroscopy, online sensors in food processing
•Experience in online sensors in food processing applications, data communications
