Subject: [camnetwork] THE PARIS SHOOTING

As despicable as the shooting itself was, this is the time that calls for a very needed introspection from the French People. Their continuous marginalization of non-Caucasian population has to stop. In almost every major French city, you find these massive projects inhabited almost exclusively of Arab, North African, and sometimes, African people. You will be hard-pressed to find an indigent French person in these areas; and they are vast. It is as if the French said " Stay here, and leave us alone".

In almost all aspects of public life, the face of France is white. Student graduates from even the most prestigious French Universities find it very difficult to find employment, the exception being those proficient in sports and other cultural activities. Little or no effort has been made to integrate the large non-European population. You can live in France all your life and never feel as if you belong because the French make sure you know your place.

This is from personal experience: As a student in Lyon, I was riding the bus one morning on my way to class. At one bus stop, a number of other people came in, and one sat right next to me. "Bonjour," I said, a simple act of human decency. The reply I got was stunning : "Je n'ai pas l'habitude de m'addresser aux etrangers".Right now, France is reeling from the massacre of the journalists, pondering what to do in the face of this intolerance. A greater acceptance and accommodation of their diverse populace would be a good place to start.
