KAMPALA. A Ugandan woman, who offered sexual services to a Malaysian police officer has been convicted and sentenced to six months in jail.
According to Malaysian news agencies, Jennifer Nankumba, 28, admitted to have committed an offence when she offered sex to a police sergeant on November 19, 2014.
It is illegal to offer sex to a police officer in uniform in Malaysia.
Ms Nankumba pleaded with the magistrate for lenience that she had two children she had to take care for including a one-year old but in vain.
She said she was the bread winner of the family since her husband, a shipping agent, was jobless.
This isn't the first time a Ugandan woman is jailed in Malaysia over sex related offences.
In 2010, a Malaysian judge sentenced a Ugandan woman, Ms Specioza Nalwadda, 38, to two years in prison for trafficking another Ugandan woman, Ms Faridah Namakula, 30, for sexual exploitation.
Ms Nalwadda accomplice, Richard Kuteesa, 35, who was earlier arrested, was acquitted by the same court.
Ms Nalwadda had allured Ms Namakula to go to Malaysia for a caretaker job, but when she arrived in Malaysia, the former confiscated her passport and forced her into prostitution.
Many Ugandan women in Asian countries are trafficked to participate in prostitution and drug trafficking.
In 2011, 25 female Ugandans were rescued from forced prostitution in Malaysia.
According to the 2013 crime report, Ugandans are trafficked in Malaysia most in comparison to any other Asian countries. At least seven people are known to have been trafficked in Malaysia in 2013.
Most of the trafficked girls were promised juicy jobs in supermarkets but ended up enslaved in brothels.
According to a 2013 police report on human trafficking 76 out of 104 victims of human trafficking were female.
