{UAH} WBK; Garfinkel, the Elite and Vanilla

WBK

Here is an intriguing scenario.

At one time in the history of NRM, vanilla prices short to almost UGx 100'000 shs  per kilo and then plummeted to negligible prices .

I was in Europe then and started to keenly follow the vanilla prices in super markets. By the time I left Europe, vanilla prices have changed upwards by a few cents.

Prices are higher today.

NRM invented value addition. So my question was why was this same government not keen on value addition albeit such high prices.

When I came back to Uganda, my first study was to understand how the crop was planted, harvested and processed.  I started monitoring one farmer. Vanilla grows well in wet or moist environment like forests. Implying all forested areas in Buganda could produce the crop.

Uganda (Buganda) vanilla is unique and the aroma is of the highest quality due to it organ agro production. The bean pond is the largest you can get in the world!

People who were growing vanilla in Buganda were basically peasants in Bugerere, basically in Banana plantation growing regions, shielding the crop from excessive sunshine.

Unlike cattle and banana farming in Ankole – the president in particular, went  to the extremes to solicit funding and adding value to this items grown largely in Ankole, him being one of the largest cattle keep.

Bulemezi has also benefited from milk and meat processing. The umber of cattle farms are almost back to pre 1980s.

How many Baganda MPs do we have in parliament?

How many have adapted Museveni's stance that Vanilla and other such crop like cocoa largely grown in Bugerere and could be equally grown in Ssese Island  to enrich fellow Baganda have come up to start agitating for processing of these crops beside Ssekalala?

Buganda has yet the largest richest persons in the country with the largest worldwide exposure, besides Uganda Asians who can also be termed as Baganda due the fact that they are settled here in Buganda.

No single Muganda rich or elite has raised his or her voice about the vanilla issues as far as I can remember. Rev. Pater Bakaluba or Nabooze, none!

You have been in class – when you teach a class repeatedly and it is not following the stream – then there is something which is totally wrong.

With keenness it is easy to govern the African Uganda  whether educated or not since their priorities are too narrow.
