{UAH} UNAA COUNCIL: Changing UNAA will be hard but we are determined!]]
Dear Members of the Ugandan North American Association,
We would like to thank you for the continued support and patience as we
continue to lay a strong foundation towards rebuilding the ideals and
values of UNAA the organization that we all love. As your elected Council
representatives, we would like to report that following the resignation of
five members of the UNAA Board of Trustees, the dismissal of the elected
UNAA treasurer from his duties by the UNAA President, spending of UNAA
membership money without accountability, manipulation of UNAA elections,
the dismissal of elected Council representatives and the continued running
of the organization without a full Council and Board of Trustees, there
has been no good faith effort from the UNAA Executive to change course.
An initiative was made by UNAA well-wishers at the 2014 convention in San
Diego to resolve the current crisis in UNAA by paving a pathway towards
reconciliation but their attempts fell on deaf ears from the UNAA
Executive under the command of Moses Wilson. A second reconciliation
committee was established which is puzzling considering that the issues
that led to the current UNAA crisis are well documented and were
articulated by the UNAA Council and the UNAA Board of Trustees in their
resignation letter. We strongly believe that the UNAA Executive is
confusing members that all is well while buying time until the next
election to unconstitutionally usher in a new group of leaders that will
continue the disastrous path on which UNAA finds itself.
The notion that during an election year, UNAA elections are to be hosted
in New Orleans which doesn't have a recognizable Ugandan Diaspora
community raises suspicion. It is our understanding that UNAA President
Brian Kwesiga and his allies have resorted to the same tactics of
dismissing community members and elected officials who disagree with them
from UNAA. Likewise they systemically chose the cowardly act of muzzling
the opposing voices from the East Coast and Midwest UNAA membership voting
blocs by holding the next UNAA elections in New Orleans conveniently next
door to Texas, turning UNAA National elections into a local chapter
affair. This poll tax is not surprising considering Brian Kwesiga took
advantage of loopholes in the UNAA constitution and weaknesses within the
UNAA Electoral Commission to get his friend Rahim Kabagambe illegally on
the ballot.
Brian Kwesiga also ordered council members representing Massachusetts,
Minnesota, Canada, California, Washington DC & Maryland and Colorado to be
removed from UNAA leadership communication lists and duties. This cleared
the path for the UNAA Executive to offer positions to individuals without
vetting and council votes. Friends and allies are being lined up for
positions on an unconstitutional UNAA Board of Trustees without
accountability and council approval.
We are determined to continue our fight against corruption, nepotism and
lawlessness in UNAA. The Uganda government, sponsors and members continue
to generously offer financial resources to an organization that has
nothing to show for it. An organization that has a few individuals with a
vested interest profiting at the expense of the Uganda community. As a
result, we shall continue our opposition to the current course of action
by the UNAA Executive and hold the second Uganda Festival in New York to
provide a place where all Ugandans from all corners of the Diaspora are
welcome.
You are all invited to the UNAA CAUSES Uganda Festival 2015 in New York to
be hosted at the magnificent New York Marriott Downtown in the heart of
Manhattan during labor day weekend Sept 4th to 6th 2015.
Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
UNAA Council Members.
