In Summary
Maj. Gen Mbadi wrote in a statement issued on Feb 19 that the army does not see reasons to pay the general since he was not offering any service to the forces during his period of absence while in exile
The Uganda people's defence force joint chief of staff Maj. Gen Wilson Mbadi has said embattled Gen Sejusa does not deserve any salary since he did not render any services to the forces.
Maj. Gen Mbadi wrote in a statement issued on Feb 19 that the army does not see reasons to pay the general since he was not offering any service to the forces during his period of absence while in exile.
"This is to inform you that by definition, salary is a fixed payment at regular intervals for services. This means that salary is not automatic payment, but must be worked for," Mr Mbadi wrote in part.
"During the period claimed for, Gen David Sejusa was neither at work, nor was he rendering services to UPDF, furthermore his absence was not authorised by his employer. Therefore he cannot be entitled to any salary for the period in question," He added.
Mr Mbadi's statement comes in reply to gen Sejusa's lawyers Mr Micheal Mabike and Mr David Mushabe who had prior written to the UPDF seeking for payment of Sejusa's arrears.
The lawyers claimed that since their client is still required to wear a military uniform and has never been retired, he is entitled to a salary.
"We find this very unacceptable and it's a form of slavery," Mr Mabike said.
Gen David Sejusa returned to the country in December 2014 after a stint away in exile. He has since asked to be retired from the army, but his request is yet to be granted.
