Hearing of a case in which former Vice President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya is sued for grabbing another man's wife has flopped.

The hearing failed to take off after Margret Kabasinguza, the woman Bukenya allegedly snatched from Emmanuel Nyabayango failed to turn up in court.

Represented by his Lawyer Ambrose Rukundo, Nyabayango asked court to go on with the case arguing that Kabasinguza knew that she was supposed to appear before court.

"Since Kabasinguza never informed court in time, I am requesting court to go on with the hearing," Nyabayango's lawyer submitted.

In response Justice Percy Tuhaise who presided over the case at the High Court Family division issued a mediation notice for settlement of the grievances under the guidance of a Court registrar or mediator.

"If mediation fails, we shall commence with the full trial of the case," judge Tuhaise said.

She set July 14, 2015 as the date when the hearing is slated to start if mediation fails.

In November 2014, the court had directed both Bukenya's lawyer to file a defence to the suit and Nyabayango's lawyer to file a joint scheduling memorandum but submitted insufficient information.

Bukenya's Lawyer MacDusman Kabega who was represented by his legal assistant Ivan Kyateeka who came in late appreciated Tuhaise's decision saying that it will help the two parties to reconcile.
