{UAH} Oral condoms available in Botswana
Oral condoms available in Botswana
Oral condoms, known as dental dams, are now available in Botswana, Yarona FM radio station reported here on Monday.Speaking to Yarona Fm news, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
Transgender/Transsexual and Intersexed (LGBTI) Coordinator in Botswana, Anna Chalmers said the condoms are barrier methods which prevent the exchange of fluids between the mouth and the sex organs during sexual intercourse.
Dental dams protect against sexually transmitted infections and HIV.
Chalmers also explained that the dental dams, which are available in different flavors, are meant to make oral sex comfortable and safe.
"The sheet is quite thin so it won't ruin sensation. They also come in a variety of flavours. You simply place it on the genital and proceed with the oral sex" she explained.
Chalmers says awareness on barrier methods as a way of preventing HIV is limited.
"People think dental dams are for homosexuals only but the fact is HIV prevention is for everyone" she said.
The dental dams are currently available for free, at LGBTI offices in Gaborone.
