April 10, 2015(Nyamilepedia) — According to the latest SPLM/SPLA Press Statement, read by Capt. Mabior Garang de Mabior, the Chairman of National Committee for Information and Public Relation, in Nairobi this afternoon, more SPLA cadres have defected Salva Kiir government.

“The Spokesman of the SPLM/SPLA makes the following statement to our supporters, the masses of our people and the world at large” Mabior breaks the news.

According to Capt. Mabior, the SPLM/SPLA leadership announces the defection of the following SPLA soldiers from Salva Kiir’s SPLA faction:

  1. Gen. Gabriel Gatwic Puoch Mar,
  2. Cde. Agel Riing Machar,
  3. Maj. (Rtd) Simon Awas Pidomoi,
  4. Capt. Benjamin John Baptista, and;
  5. Capt. Michael Thiik Ke’nyan.

Although Brig. Gen. Gatwech is yet to announce the size of his troops, Capt. Mabior is confident that the defecting general is a renowned fighter, who has fought intensively during the liberation war against the Khartoum regimes.

“Brig. Gen. Gatwic is a renowned military general with extensive experience in the service. He is a great son and a patriot who has dedicated his life to the cause of liberation in order to alleviate the suffering of the people of South Sudan from successive Khartoum based regimes in the past; and currently from the Administration of Salva Kiir.” The Spokesman, Capt Mabior affirms.

Mabior further congratulates Cde. Agel Riing Machar, who defected two weeks ago, for making the bold decision.

“Cde. Agel Riin Machar is a known Youth Activist in South Sudan who has served in various capacities. He is, however most notably known for being the Chairperson for the Political Parties Youth Forum, and for being the former President of the South Sudan National Youth Union.” Mabior said.

According to Capt. Mabior, the other individuals, listed above, did not attend the today’s declaration in Nairobi, Kenya, due to logistical reasons, however, their allegiance has been well received by the rebels.

“Maj. (Rtd) Simon Awas Pidomoi, Capt. Benjamin John Baptista and Capt Michael Thiik…. They, however, could not miss this opportunity to tender their rejection of the Administration of Salva Kiir. The SPLM/SPLA welcomes these Comrades to the People’s Movement for fundamental change in our country.” Mabior reiterates.

Mabior further confirms that the SPLM/SPLA, despite the overwhelming news of more defection and rejection of Salva Kiir Administration, remains committed to the Addis Ababa and Arusha initiatives.

The spokesman also urges the region and the international community to use all means at their disposal to persuade the Salva Kiir administration to return to the negotiating table in good faith.

“The SPLM/SPLA would also like to take this opportunity to renew its call for the release of the AU Report and implementation of targeted sanctions.” Capt. Mabior continued.

The Statements by Gen. Gatwich Puoc and by Cde. Agel Machar shall follow shortly.
