{UAH} Today in history...
Ugandans and friends.......
Lest you forget;
On this day (11th April 1979), a combined force of Uganda National Liberation Army backed by their Tanzanian counterparts TPDF, evicted Idi Amin from Kampala when, Africa's Lion of War David Oyite-Ojok announced the fall of Idi Amin's regime.
BRIEF BACKGROUND: Amin, who was brought into power by the British and US imperialists using their Israeli commando outposts in Kampala in January 1971 quickly turned against his bosses and by this time, he was the darling of Libya's Gaddafi in a moderate Islamic 'quest' and empire Africa. Amin had been used to overthrow Milton Obote who had become a thorn on the flesh of the imperialists over their support for apartheid in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe - as the key spokesperson for the Front Line States and the Mulungushi Club (Kenneth Kaunda, Julius Nyerere, Milton Obote and Oliver Tambo).
Indeed, on that fateful day in 1971, Club members - headed by Obote had mobilized majority members of the Commonwealth who were prepared to leave the British body unless the Brits stop arms sales to apartheid South Africa and also withdraws support for Ian Smith's other boer regime in Zimbabwe. Domestically Obote had moved to nationalize (quite rightly at the time), key foreign 'exploiting' companies, refused to grant Israel unfettered access to sabotage Egypt, control the Nile and, insisting that the question of British Asians be resolved. No issues with legitimate Asians whose Uganda citizenship were resolved.
Looking back, Zimbabwe is free, Namibia is free, Angola is free, Mozambique is free, South Africa is, well, free. The price was rightly paid. Sadly though, considering what some Ugandans and Rwandese have experienced (some South Sudanese too, might equally argue), were lessons ever learnt? Africans.......listen, read and learn from history. Ok, just imagine.
