The Zimbabwe Under-23 team reached the finals of All-Africa Games for the first time in two decades after holding Cameroon to a 1-1 draw in Yaoundé on Sunday

The Zimbabweans beat their Central African opponents 2-1 aggregate to qualify for the tournament.

Right-back Blessing Moyo equalised from the spot on 57 minutes after the Cameroonians, winners of four All-Africa Games gold medals, had taken the lead courtesy of another penalty just before the break.

The Young Warriors' triumph came as a surprise against a Cameroon side that had called in some of their European-based players after losing the first leg 1-0 in Harare.

Zimbabwe coach Calisto Pasuwa on the other hand, struggled to secure some of his key players from the domestic league for both legs as clubs clung to their stars after the Premier Soccer League rejected calls to reschedule matches in order to accommodate the qualifiers.

Pasuwa had to do without first choice goalkeeper Donovan Bernard, chief strikers Walter Musona and Thomas Chidewu as well as central defenders Teenage Hadebe and Elvis Moyo.

Highlanders midfielder Nqobizitha Masuku only joined the team for the trip to Yaoundé after missing the first leg.

Pasuwa's efforts to fly in Kuda Mahachi of Mamelodi Sundowns and Netherlands-based Marvellous Nakamba also came to naught.

But, as it turned out, the Young Warriors still had enough depth to keep the Cameroonians at bay in their own backyard.

The Young Warriors last participated in the All-Africa games in 1995 as hosts, reaching the final before losing 3-1 to Egypt.  The Young Warriors also came fourth at the 1991 addition in Cairo.
