PRESS RELEASE
REGISTRATION EXTENDED IN KAMPALA AND CENTRAL REGION AS DEMAND
FOR MEMBERSHIP SHOOTS HIGH
• I am thrilled by the support our citizens have showed the Party. •
Registration in Kampala & Buganda extended for seven days.
• Additional registration materials to be dispatched to branches. •
Registration is on-going in the Eastern Region.
• Roll out in the Western Region is this Thursday, May 28th.
Kampala - 24th May, 2015 - The National Resistance Movement
registration drive in Central and Kampala - which follows the recent
registration efforts in Northern Region, has been met with high demand
and as a result, we have opted to extend the exercise for seven days
in order to have all our members registered.
The extension that commences this Monday May 25th 2015 ends on Sunday
May 31st at 6:00pm and we shall shortly dispatch off additional
materials to all branches in the two regions. I want to thank all
those citizens who have not yet been able to register for their
patience, and urge them to take advantage of this extension to acquire
party membership.
The NRM values each and every person who wishes to join and we shall
therefore leave no stone unturned. We are thrilled by the huge demand
that has already surpassed our initial expectations and it is a clear
sign of the support NRM enjoys all across the country. I wish to
emphasize once again that registration is free to all Ugandan citizens
aged 18 years and above.
Registration in the Eastern Region is also on-going and I don't expect
anything different from what we have had in the other regions before.
These numbers are evident that NRM remains the most trusted partner
for the Ugandan people in the years ahead.
We shall be rolling out the Western Region this week starting with
the zonal conferences on Thursday May za" across the entire region.
We are honoured by the trust the citizens of Uganda are placing in the
NRM with this impressive turnout. This registration data collected
will be used in the party's planning initiatives and it is also a step
towards winning the General Election in 2016. I am therefore pleased
to say we are most definitively moving in the right direction towards
those goals.
I have taken note of some remarks on the social and digital media
attributing the lack of materials in some areas on improper planning.
The fact is that we had, in some areas, underestimated interest in
party membership and therefore we had not provided adequate materials
to match that interest. I could not think of a better problem to have
than this!
I however wish to mention that my team is committed towards
registering a very successful exercise that will see Uganda's biggest
population registered with NRM.
I thank you all.
