{UAH} How Ganda are supposed to fast "Obwerende"

" All religions do fasting. Baganda also do fasting for nine days or more. This is called Obwerende. When a man fasts he is not allowed to sleep on his bed. He sleeps on the Floor. He does not meet his wife during fasting."

This is in the book I am currently reading.
