MALAWI QUEENS THRASH UGANDA IN DIAMOND CHALLENGE

Blantyre, June 16: Malawi Queens beat Uganda 51-40 on Tuesday night in their opening game of the Netball Diamonds Challenge at Ugu Sports Centre Margate in South Africa.

It was another blistering form the African netball champions proved why they wear the crown with a fast and furious display.

 

The Malawi side was given a tough in the third quarter and although they held the lead in goals, at 40-30, She Cranes dominated possession. They also led 15-11 and 30-18 in first and second quarter respectively.

Malawi Queens led by sharp shooter Joyce Mvula and Sindi Simutowe went on to win the quarter with 51-40.

Mvula, who plays for Blue Eagles Sisters used her height and reach to her advantage and was exceptional in receiving the long ball. Her 83 per cent accuracy in the match is the highest of the tournament so far.

The Queens won forcing their opponents to go off the courts with their heads bowed down.

Malawi head coach Peace Kaluwa said she was delighted to win the opening match but said the main challenge will be the game against hosts South Africa on Wednesday.

Kaluwa featured a youthful with some veteran players like Joyce Mvula, Sindi Simutowe, Towera Vinkhumbo, Caroline Ngwira, Thandi Galeta, Takondwa Lwazi, Grace Mwafulirwa, Lauren Ngwira, Martha Dambo.

The games are beamed live on Super Sport 4.
