{UAH} "YOU CAN BE DISQUALIFIED FROM RACE"- EC WARNS JPAM ON EARLY PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGNS!

Electoral Commission (EC) has warned former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi against early campaigns as his posters and fliers continue to circulate across the country. Mbabazi announced his presidential bid on Monday in a YouTube video that went viral online and since, his supporters have been caught with many posters, t-shirts and fliers promoting his candidature- something that is illegal and could lead a candidate to disqualification. EC spokesperson, Jotham Taremwa questions the basis of Mbabazi's presidential bid announcement saying no one has been nominated yet so no one can start early campaigns.

The Commission is yet to release a campaign programme but until then everyone is to stay put and only deal in party matters. On being selective in the commission's application of the law, Taremwa says that the other campaign material so far seen is for the NRM flag bearer where the EC has no jurisdiction as this is for the NRM party. Tentatively, nominations of presidential, parliamentary candidates and local government candidates will take place between September 1 and October 30.

The campaigns are expected to start on September 18 and run up to March.
