Family storms police over spousal murder case

The family of a 22-year-old woman who was murdered early this year stormed Mukono policestation on over delays in bringing the suspect to justice.

Marxias Nantaba, a resident of Ggulu ward in Mukono townwas allegedly murdered by herhusband in March 2015.

One of the relatives of the deceased, Moses Bbosa told the New Vision that they wanted to knowwhy police have not followed up the case.

The case was registered in March on file number, CRB 273/2015 which was initially recorded with afalse name, Florence Namugalu; and yet the first suspect, a friend of the wanted suspectSemuNsereko was released.

"Police have to tell us why the suspect was releasedand yet no further information has been madeon the case for over five months," Bbosa said.

He also added that they want police to help them find the baby who disappeared that night becauseshe was supposed to be in their custody.

Bbosa also said that the police gave away the child without the family's consent yet her mother hadbeen murdered in a brutal way.

In her narration, Margaret Nanyonjo, the mother of the deceased said that the deceased firstdisappeared after her graduation in 2014 with the suspect.

Nanyonjo added that the next time she heard from her daughter was when she was complaining of harassment from her husband whom she had married barely a year ago.

The couple resided in Ggulu ward in Mukono central division.

It's alleged that on March 18, 2015, the deceased was terribly beaten up by her husbandSemuNsereko from 9:00 pm to 3:00 am leaving the deceased in a critical condition.

The police were allegedly tipped off by neighbours and the deceased was rushed to hospital fromwhere she died of severe wounds.

When contacted for a commentthe OC CIID of Mukono Police, Henry Ayebare said that it is truethat the case had been registered at the stationand investigations were ongoing.

Hehoweverdenied laxity by the Police adding that the suspect was still on the run and calledasked the public to help them by providing information on his whereabouts.
