Reports indicate over 65 households in the village have already been affected with most of the victims being children and the elderly.
The Local Council 1 Chairperson Anselm Ssengendo says a 63-year-old Stephen Kakooza has already lost his private parts, toes and three fingers to jiggers.

The division's deputy speaker, Matia Kakooza told Kfm a local with the help of crime preventers, the local leaders have embarked on an operation to spray the whole village and treat the victims.

Jiggers have in the past affected people in the Busoga region , an area whose conditions favour the existence of the jigger flea – a moist, humid and tropical environment in which the itchy fleas thrive.

Dr Peter Waiswa, a lecturer at Makerere University's school of Public Health, says the above conditions are not helped by the poor living conditions.

"The poverty levels in some areas are high and like the findings show, you will realise that the most affected villages are where you find that someone cannot afford the necessities of life. Poor sanitation is synonymous with poverty, which is the case in the affected parts," he once told The Observer.

Locally, jiggers can be controlled through affordable measures like smearing the house floors with cow dung and wearing of shoes.
