{UAH} JAMES: update

James,
I did not sue Brian.  Rather, we petitioned the court to allow us to call a special meeting of UNAA. Brian is a Respondent because he was one of the leaders of UNAA and they deserve a chance to explain why they did not accept our demand. You only see Brian's name just because we don't want to waste time and space listing all Respondents and Petitioners.  Hence, we use "Kwesiga et al" which means "Kwesiga and others".
As for alternatives, during the convention in New Orleans, Mr Abe and I had a chance to talk to Brian and other leaders of UNAA, including some of the incoming leaders like Peter.  Their lawyer has also been in touch with us about settlement out of court and I'm consulting other Petitioners about UNAA's proposals. I last heard from him late last week. Obviously, at this point, I can't tell you what we talked about.
We didn't go to court because we wanted to.  Litigation is very time consuming and very expensive. It was a last resort after our demands had been neglected for almost a year.
The only part where Brian (and other UNAA leaders) would be personally liable is costs.  If the court agrees with us, Brian and other leaders would pay costs because we think they intentionally violated the law when they refused to disclose UNAA records and books after we made several requests.  They also refused to call a special meeting though they knew that we had enough members for the demand.
Lastly, I am not a leader in UNAA nor a leader in unaacauses, so I can't speak for them. I think their respective websites have contact info for them. They can tell you what they are doing about reconciliation.
thanks

Subject: fwd UPDATE

MR musoke,
Thanks for the update (someone forwarded it to me).  Why are you still suing Brian when he is not the president? Why sue someone that offers a free service? Will you consider the alternative and reconcile or settle out of court?  Who is paying? Why force UNAA to waste its little money on litigation instead of talking? Do you see how ordinary members are hurt by the divisions and alternative convnetions? Can't leaders of both UNAA and unaacauses put your egos on the side and unite for the sake of us ordinary ugandans that want or need unity in diaspora? We used to enjoy unaa conventions. Sometimes, there would be disagreement but nothing like what you guys have today.
Sorry for the long email but I really used to enjoy conventions and looked forward to them.  I have missed several in the recent past because my work takes me to uganda every September (I am a doctor with WHO).  But this year, Labor Day found me in NY and a friend invited to the convention in NY.  I met many old friends but i missed out on others that went to New Orleans.  Many other friends that used to attend conventions did not want to come because they think is different from what we used to enjoy. People filled in me a little about the fights and frankly I think that you guys can solve them for our sake.
James
