Angry NRM supporters burning their membership cards

More than 300 supporters of Mesarch Ssebula, a former contestant for the Kyanamukaka sub county LC 3 chairperson NRM party ticket have rejected the poll results citing elections malpractice. Ssebula contested in the NRM primaries and lost to his rival Mathias Ssekiwala.
This afternoon, Masaka District NRM party Registrar declared Ssekiwala winner after polling 2664 votes against Ssebula's 1780 votes. However, the declaration of Ssekiwala as winner has not gone down well with Ssebula's supporters.
After the declaration hundreds of Ssebula's supporters stormed Kitofaali trading center in Kyanamukaka Sub County to express their dissatisfaction with the poll results.
They accused NRM party officials in the district of looking on as Joseph Ssekasamba, the Deputy Masaka RDC and Police led by the DPC John Mwaule rigged the polls. Ssebula alleges that the DPC and his men picked his polling agents around the sub county before aiding ballot stuffing. 
They collected their NRM membership party cards and the campaign T-shirts of President Yoweri Museveni, the vice president Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi and Masaka Woman MP Freda Nanziri Mubanda and set them ablaze in protest.
Our reporter also saw two protesters urinating on the campaign T-shirts of President Museveni, the NRM party chairman. The Mubanda attempted to plead with the protesters to calm them down but they threatened to lynch her. They asked her not to bother asking for their votes since she had looked on as they were being beaten by Police.
After failing to calm down the protesters, Mubanda went to Hotel Brovad to plead with Ssebula to persuade his supporters. The Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi declined to comment on the matter when contacted.
In a related development, Joseph Mugerwa, the Masaka NRM Registrar has fled from office after allegedly refusing to declare Tonny Ssempijja, the NRM party candidate for the Kimanya-Kyabakuza division on grounds that he is a known supporter of ex-prime minister Amama Mbabazi.
Ssempijja defeated his main rival Hajj Hamid Bukenya in 12 of the 16 polling stations in the division in a hot contest on Monday.  According to the declaration forms, Ssempijja got 1103 while Bukenya polled 903 votes. However, it is alleged that on Monday night, Joseph Ssekasamba, the Deputy Masaka RDC raided Masaka NRM offices and stopped the registrar from declaring the results.
He accused Ssempijja of being a supporter of Mbabazi, who is eyeing the presidency in next year's elections. This angered Ssempijja and his supporters. They raided the NRM party offices and threatened to set it on fire forcing Mugerwa to flee for dear life. 
Ssempijja and his supporters have given the registrar an ultimatum of two days to declare the polls result or else they take to the streets in violent protests.

"I have all papers that my agents signed. I have an example of Kasijagirwa. I got 193 votes and my opponent got 20 votes. The deputy RDC is involved and we have evidence. Like yesterday one of my supporters was arrested and when I went there, I was told that the deputy RDC ordered for the arrest of that man and he also said 'not only him but I you can get Mr Ssempijja you also put him inside'

So I belief he was fully involved. By the way I called him and he said Mr Ssempijja you are Amama Mbabazi's supporter, you must feel it and am also telling him, he is going to feel it", Ssempijja vowed.
Although Ssekasamba admits knowledge of the fact that Ssempijja is a known supporter of Mbabazi, he denies his involvement in the polls. Joseph Mugerwa, the embattled Masaka NRM Registrar has declined to comment on the matter.
Elections malpractices and eventual protests have dogged most the ruling party's primaries across the country.
