University officials have confirmed that the threat that prompted a lockdown, was posted on 4chan.org.  In part, the threat reads "don't go to the Laurier science building hall tomorrow. happening thread will be posted in the morning." The wording is very similar to the threat the shooter at an Oregon Community College made before opening fire. That too, was posted on 4chan.org. At minimum we now know the building that was targeted.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service is working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the RCMP after an online threat was made towards the campus. WLU Communications and Public Affairs Director Kevin Crowley says it was directed at one specific building, but didn't elaborate. When FBI gets involved one can assume that the threat originated from States, and that is an assuming from my part. Please do not go to Waterloo university till the situation gets clarified, but for now everything is closed and cancelled.

Police have deemed the threat credible.

There is a threat to the University of Waterloo Ontario, and Waterloo regional police has been notified. The entire university has been put on a lock down and all buildings are closed. All classes and meetings that were supposed to take place today in the university have been cancelled until further notice. All students, staff and faculty are advised to stay away from the Waterloo campus.
