{UAH} Selective reporting of results by media fuels election violence in Africa

Folks:

There is a paradox. The more selective releases by the media the more likely to erupt election related violence.  Think about that.

Elections should be released simultaneously at the voting centre where counting should take place not some central location where votes are transported and rigged on the way.  If Ugandans were to embrace such common sense and efficient reform, focus on the EC chair would be immaterial. .

Parties should also  rethink how to undertake party primaries and who should do it.  Imagine NRM or voters have voted for NRM bearers, they will be called upon to vote for opposition flag bearers too although I suspect deal will be made to hand some NRM losers direct opposition tickets.  Voters will soon be tired.

May be national executive committees should be empowered to pick some of the candidates. Why? Cheaper,  certainly less violent and faster.  may be the party leader too  should have some powers to pick a certain percentage of candidates as is the case in many parliamentary democracies in the west-they mostly pick stars, women and visible minorities.  Yes, have some open primaries, but should consider a combinations of different methods to have strong and diverse list of candidates.

Now can the opposition do something different and ensure not more than 1000 voters per centre and count votes on the spot and announce them there. but they wil say they have no money o hire so many polling clerks.

Btw, what are the voting hours in Uganda?  That would not mater if the maximum number of voters in centre were caped at 1000. Voting would be done probably before 3 or even 4.

Again do not yet count out Hon Anite  because the Odoi Commission can, and will be overruled in some cases  by the NRM leader.

What about Mrs. Aisha Kabanda in Butambala?

Abbey/Ms Rehema: can you please use your contacts to find out about Ms Kabanda who defeated Mrs. Zziwa in Kampala?. Find out if she had a sister by the name Farida, a teacher at Nabbagereka Primary school in Kisenyi.
