{UAH} THE SHOCKING MOMENT AMIN REJECTED A SELFISH VICTORY: THE RUSSIAN SOLUTION 1979.

(Photo: A Russian Tu-22 strategic bomber being escorted by a normal jet fighter (Sukhoi?). When we toured the first two sample planes in 1979 at Entebbe airbase, I noticed that it's bomb payload area alone, could accommodate 2 matatu taxi's.)

As Russia becomes the new world cowboy with it's no-nonsense approach to ISIS (and I support Mr. Vladimir Putin 100% in the anti-terror campaign), I am reminded about how the Former USSR wanted to do the same against Tanzanian forces in Uganda back in 1979.
At the height of the war against my father, the Russian Ambassador (then USSR) requested for an audience with the president.
In the meeting that was held at Amin's Cape Town Villas residence in Kampala's  Munyonyo suburb) the Ambassador made a major offer.
Russia would deploy their massive Tupolev strategic bombers, and unleash a relentless bombing campaign from Masaka town to the border and deep into Tanzanian territory, totally destroying the advancing Tanzanian forces.
Idi Amin was told that Ugandan soldiers would have to get out of the area because any thing alive, including the tiniest insect, would be destroyed, and plants/vegetation wouldn't be able to grow for the next five years.
But there was one unbelievable catch. My father was presented with an agreement to sign. One that gave Russia total ideological and economic control.
Uganda would become a Communist country and it's natural resources, including oil and minerals would be controlled by the USSR.
While the ambassador explained, Idi Amin thought about it.
Ugandan civilians in the area were would be pulverized, and nobody would be able to cultivate their crops on their land for the next five years if they returned to the land. Plus after him struggling to liberate his country economically and politically from British neo-colonialism, fighting hard to maintain Uganda as a Non-aligned nation that served neither the capitalists West nor the communist East, Uganda was now going to become a Russian colony forever.
The East African nation would only purchase exclusively Soviet products, be it cars, Tv sets, books or fashion.
Barter exchange with the Communist block was going to be our only international trade activity.
I am not sure any other Ugandan leader, whether past or present, and under the same circumstances where his forces were retreating, would refuse sure military victory that at least keeps them selfishly in power even if it means destroying their own country and population.
Amin immediately knew his time was up. After his public stand against British neo-colonialism, there was no way he would be seen kneeling forever to a new colonial power.
It was noted that Russia was also the manufacturer of all the weapons beung used by the Tanzaniand, particularly the BM 21 multiple rocket launcher (saba-saba). Therefore the USSR was playing both sides in the conflict.
For the record, those who were around at the time will probably remember that Field Marshal Idi Amin took a decision. One that was probably most difficult but probably had Uganda's political neutrality and future economic prosperity at it's heart. He rejected the Russian offer, and expelled the Soviet Ambassador the next day.
A few weeks later he left Kampala. He actually left the capital one day after the Tanzanian forces had already taken the city.
Much as the fight against ISIS today is the right thing to do, I won't be surprised if Assad has had to sell his soul and country to the illuminati so to speak, so as to get the suddenly increased Russian support. They probably waited until a person cannot refuse whatever offer they put on the table.
However, the West should have supported the Syrian people from the start, rather than train/fund the very terrorists that Russia is dealing with decisively.
