Latest news on the Cities and Local Government Devolution Bill [HL] 2015-16
The Cities and Local Government Devolution Bill is a public bill introduced to Parliament by the government.
The first reading in the House of Commons took place on 21 July 2015. First reading is formal and takes place without any debate.
The next stage is second reading when the general principles of the Bill are debated.
The second reading debate on the Bill is expected to take place on Wednesday 14 October 2015.
MPs tabled three 'reasoned amendments' to the motion for second reading, declining to give the bill a second reading. The amendment in the name of the Leader of the Opposition was chosen for debate by the Speaker.
If the motion for second reading is agreed MPs will consider a programme motion. The programme motion would schedule the bill to be considered by a Committee of the whole House over two days. The programme motion would also schedule the report and third reading stages to take place over one day.
