Why Uhuru is not fighting to save Ruto, says Raila's ODM
BY FELIX OLICK
October 10, 2015ODM has scaled up its onslaught on the Jubilee administration, claiming incriminating evidence against Deputy President William Ruto at The Hague was supplied by President Uhuru Kenyatta's closest confidants.
For the first time, Oburu Odinga – Raila Odinga's elder brother – said he was ready to take the witness stand for the DP, because he believes Ruto is innocent.
Continuing a tit-for-tat political duel, Raila's lieutenants yesterday issued a ten-point statement why Uhuru allegedly "did everything to get Ruto to The Hague and is doing nothing to extricate him from the ICC stranglehold".
The Orange Party said former National Intelligence Service boss Michael Gichangi pieced together the damaging dossier that the ICC now heavily relies on to nail the DP.
"Gichangi testified on 21 July 2008 and gave a dossier that named and implicated William Ruto," ODM Deputy Treasurer Olga Karani said on behalf of the party yesterday.
She was referring to the then spymaster's appearance before the Waki Commission.
"Later, Michael Gichangi's name was submitted to the ICC as one of the witnesses for Uhuru. On this matter of the ICC, Gichangi was working for Uhuru."
Despite having been elected Deputy President, ODM went on, the State refused Ruto access to the NIS evidence to rebut ICC Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda's case.
"Uhuru refused, even despite the fact that Ruto was now Deputy President entitled to receive any information needed from the NIS," Karani said at the press conference, also attended by Oburu.
The Odinga brigade also roped in Jubilee Alliance vice chair David Murathe, saying he worked with Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria to procure witnesses against Ruto.
According to the six ODM legislators led by Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, Murathe was the head of the UK Centre, headquarters of Uhuru's political activities in 2008.
The ICC storm was sparked off by Kuria after he confessed that he and Narc Kenya boss Martha Karua actively plotted to 'fix' Ruto.
Kuria also claimed that Raila and Kisumu Senator Anyang' Nyong'o were in the mix.
The opposition lawmakers accused Uhuru of using former US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Jendayi Frazer to fight his case.
"Ever since Uhuru's case was dropped, Dr Jendayi Frazer no longer fights the ICC and is quite happy with the court's continuing with the prosecution of Ruto," they alleged.
"In fact, all the international lobbyists who had been retained by the government to help fight the ICC have been stood down since Uhuru's case collapsed."
The Orange Party also claimed the controversial Rule 68 on recanted testimony that has shaken the DP was a trade-off by the government to exempt Uhuru from attending his own trial.

very high education. We can call Obote all bad names we have, but the bottom line remains that he got more scholarships for Buganda than all previous Uganda leaders combined. That includes Sir Edward Mutesa, President Lule, President Binayisa, up to and into Ssabasajja Mutebi. Who all happen to be Baganda leaders." Mulindwa
