{UAH} Africa's problem are Africans Created Problems

Hej

I do not think Africa's problem are created by Europeans- Right now Africa is absorbing huge amounts of dollars from China in form of investments and they call that cheap money.

The projects China is undertaking are not studied, at times not on standard or totally substandard. I will give you an example of buildings and roads in Uganda. Which design and building codes does China use to construct these roads – no one knows!

We are constructing mega hydro power dams but technological develpments in the energy sectors, shows, reading from USA and Europe that in the next 15 years or less more than 2/3 of power will be from natural sources - sun and wind. Does africa lack sunlight and wind?

Since 1996 I have been telling this Uganda government to start constructing houses and some of my articles are published in Uganda news papers. The calculations are very simple. For every shilling invested in collective homes, you can get back five or ten more.

I do not think if the articles were not informative, news papers will care publishing them. Years down the road the government has not built a single house for any Ugandan.

If people have poor housing of course you will spend more in health care.

But there is something more and fundamental to this. There is no way, you will create a viable industrial base if people sleep in grass huts. Good permanent homes give people reason to aspire for better living standards, as simple as that.  Industrial goods are not quite many - just look around your home to see my point.

In Africa No one get it  - tell me an regional government in East and Central Africa making an effort to house it's people – none! Rwanda has half heartdly tried but that is how far they can go!

Uganda for example has simply too many banks with slightly above 20% bankable population.  There is virtually no state bank! How stupid can a people be?!! for every bank transcation oe pays 2000 shilling or more.

Banks are not salvation armies to help develop poor nations - these banks are surviving on dealing in government securities, normally virtual money at the hightest interest rates possible and who pays - the poor! Bonds are mere papers. Some of these merchant banks are registered in tax free heavens in the Brtish or French Carribean. Some of the owners of these mechant banks are people in government!

Africa has probably some of the best educated people with very poor attitudes – very corrupt ad thieves.

In Uganda for example we have over 38 Universities. None of these Universities are clearly working with the private sector to promote innovation in science and technology.

I am old enough to say these sort of things with a straight face.

When I was young, I used to visit Makerere University Physics Department to study physics principals. The old laboratory was established by Europeans but ever since Europeans left, no single Africa professor, politicians or civil servant has cared to buy equipment for this department besides what is being donated once agin by Europeans!

The same goes with churches, mosques, hospitals, schools you name - Africans manning this entities they just steal (root) whatever they can lay their hands on!

Can you really imagine this happening in Europe where a professor and students alike can teach and be taught respectively with old non functioning equipment?!

How many researchers are funded by East and Central Africa states jointly with the private sector to solve problems in their societies?

Professors (philosophers) themselves are living in a world of their own. Now imagine Socrates or Aristotles putting on the African professor airs to make a point that he or she is a professor!

===========

Our research is, we believe, the first attempt at
a comprehensive comparisoniii of the range of resource flows in and out of Africa.

We calculate the money leaving Africa every year and compare this to the resources flowing in. Our research shows that Africa loses:

$46.3 billion in profits made by multinational companies

$21 billion in debt payments, often following irresponsible loans

$35.3 billion in illicit financial flows facilitated by the global network of tax havens

$23.4 billion in foreign currency reserves given as loans to other governments

$17 billion in illegal logging

$1.3 billion in illegal fishing

$6 billion as a result of the migration of skilled workers from Africa

In addition to these resource flows Africa is forced to pay a further:

$10.6 billion to adapt to the effects of climate change that it did not cause

$26 billion to promote low carbon economic growth

If these financial outflows and costs are compared with inflows into Africa, the result is a net annual loss of $58.2 billion. This is over one and half times the amount of additional money needed to deliver affordable health care
