Museveni warns Mbabazi 'moles' in NRM
President Yoweri Museveni has cautioned NRM party members against branding others as supporters of his former prime minister and now presidential aspirant, Amama Mbabazi.
Museveni says those who support Mbabazi should be free to express themselves and should not be taunted for doing so.
"...somebody is here; saying 'am with you', They say 'no, no! Although you are saying you are with me, you look like you are with Mbabazi' This is really wrong", Museveni said.
Museveni noted that Mbabazi had clearly stated that he had become independent and urged those who want to join him to do so. He added that if there are some NRM members acting as moles, these will be discovered and the party will then deal with them.
Museveni told the party National Executive Committee members at State House, Entebbe on Saturday evening that NRM is very serious with serious people and that nobody will play around with them.
NRM Electoral Commission chairman, Tanga Odoi was the first to raise the matter during NRM primaries claiming that branding some supporters as 'Mbabazi supporters' was simply 'donating' supporter to the former party Secretary General.
Mbabazi was sacked as Prime Minister in September last year and was also replaced as NRM Secretary General three months later.
Mbabazi then officially in a letter to President Museveni declared that he would be contesting against him for the party Chairmanship as well as for Presidency before he dropped the idea and joined forces with the opposition.
Both Museveni and Mbabazi are scheduled for nomination by the Electoral Commission as presidential candidates for next year's elections on November 3.
Meanwhile, five Mbabazi mobilisers - George William Okoit, John Patrick Oyaba, Martin Ekochu, Moses Ekinu and Moses Okello have been arrested and detained at Soroti Central Police Station for allegedly holding an illegal assembly.
According to East Kyoga Police spokesperson, Juma Hassan Nyene, the mobilisers had organized an 'uncleared' assembly at Omadira Primary school to solicit support for Mbabazi.
