Nkaiserry alleges plot to destablise the State - News
Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery on Tuesday claimed there was a plot to incite Kenyans to start a campaign of mass action "and destroy the government".
In what he termed a matter with serious ramifications for national security, Mr Nkaissery claimed there have even been veiled calls for unconstitutional means to bring down the government.
"We have even heard veiled calls for unconstitutional means towards this end which poses a direct threat to our democracy and national security," he said during a news conference outside his Harambee House office in Nairobi.
He said reports of revelations of corruption in government were part of this scheme which he termed economic sabotage.
Irresponsible utterances by leaders are aimed at igniting mass action against the government, he said.
"The objective is to cause disaffection among Kenyans, with the intention of igniting mass action against the government," he said.
As a result of such inciting utterances, the minister claimed, at least 10 Kenyans had lost their lives.
The minister, however, said stern action would be taken against the perpetrators.
"Security officers have been instructed and will ensure any person who utters inciting statements with the potential of causing disharmony will be held to account," he warned.
Mr Nkaiserry said the perpetrators were hiding behind the war on corruption, which he said was increasingly taking the shape of a larger plot of economic sabotage.
"In the last one week, we have also seen internationalisation of this hysteria, with the articles in international media outlets, aimed at harming the nation. We can only presume that they are authored in cahoot with people intent on executing this insidious agenda," he said
He called on those who have information on corruption against any officer in government to share it with the police, his office or the Presidency.
At the same time, the minister directed Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria to record a statement with the police regarding an allegation he made on Tuesday during a show at Inooro FM that the Interior ministry had lost Sh3.7 billion under the watch of the CS.
