{UAH} Allan/Pojim/WBK: Besigye Arua rally shifted to ‘bushy’ golf course
Besigye Arua rally shifted to 'bushy' golf course
Dr Kizza Besigye's Wednesday rally in Arua has been grudgingly shifted from Boma grounds to the 'bushy and small' Arua Golf course grounds.
Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) mobilizers in Arua who had opted for the bigger Boma grounds were today informed by the Office of the Town Clerk that the venue was been pre-booked by Arua Pentecostal Church for a crusade.
Bruce Musema, one of FDC's mobilizers suspects foul play by the district authorities in denying them access to the bigger Boma grounds.
"Due to challenges that we faced through the office of the Town Clerk claiming that the venue on which we were supposed to be having a rally on 30th is being booked. They advised us to make use of Golf course or the golf field which we have secured for all people in West Nile to come and gather and listen to their long-awaited president Rtd Col Dr Kizza Besigye.
That [Golf] course is clearly under management overseen by the management of Arua Municipal Council which is definitely headed by the town clerk. We do not know why it is bushy, secondly if we are to do a comparative, Arua Hill Boma ground is the usual ground which accommodates a reasonable number of people for such rallies", he said.
Besigye is expected have stopovers to address smaller rallies in Ayivu, Terego, Madi and Vurra on Tuesday before holding a bigger rally in Arua on Wednesday.
Arua town clerk, Francis Byabagambi says the church had already booked Boma grounds way before the FDC team approached them. Presidential candidates Yoweri Museveni, Amama Mbabazi and Abed Bwanika have all previously used Boma grounds for their campaign rallies.
