Flesh-eating bug on the rise in Syria; ISIS continues to dump bodies in the street

WAR-ravaged Syria has anew enemy – a deadly flesh-eating bug caused by ISIS dumping bodiesin the street.

The bug, known asLeishmaniasis, is caused by protozoan parasites.

It is usually carriedby flies but experts warn that increase in rotting flesh in thestreet has triggered a dramatic rise.

Records suggest that 16months ago around 500 people were affected by the disease, but thatis now believed to have soared.

Dilqash Isa, head ofthe Kurdish Red Crescent humanitarian organisation , said: 'As aresult of abominable acts by ISIS that included the killing ofinnocent people and dumping their corpses in streets, this is theleading factor behind the rapid spread of Leishmanisis disease.'

The World HealthOrganization has warned that Syria's health system has collapsedunder five years of war, the Metro reports.

'We did not haveknowledge about this deadly disease before,' a Syrian Kurdishfighter told news agencies. 'We have been fighting on thebattlefield for almost four years and this disease basicallygenerated from embattled areas of Tal Hamis, Hon and Qosa,'

Britain launched airstrikes against Islamic State in Syria on Thursday morning afterDavid Cameron won backing from MPs.

British Tornado jetstook off from the Royal Air Force base at Akrotiri in Cyprus beforedawn, within hours of the result being announced.

The Britishcontribution forms only a tiny part of US-led Operation InherentResolve, which has been bombing Islamic State in Iraq and Syria formore than a year.

The vote for Britishforces to extend their air strikes in Iraq into Syria was won by amajority of 174.
