A group of over 100 staff members of the former Prime Minister AmamaMbabazi's Go Forward secretariat have crossed over and joined President Yoweri Museveni's campaign team.
The group led by Ronald Tumwine Ssekitooleko the head of field operations and campaign structure announced this at a press conference in Kampala on Tuesday evening.
"We have officially left the TDA/Go Forward Uganda pressure group to rejoin the ruling NRM after being misled by Hon. Amama Mbabazi, who since the beginning was telling us that he was to bring about the desired change within the NRM by participating in the party primaries, something he rejected and stood as an independent candidate," Tumwine told journalists on Tuesday.
"We noticed we were fighting personal wars between Mbabazi and President Museveni as the former was serving his own interests, contrary to what he always told us and the public at large. We reflected on it and realized it was a bad scheme we could not continue with."
According to the head of the group, they discovered that the Mbabazi camp was focused on fronting hate and tribal campaign messages on top of putting the family first and meddling into the pressure group's affairs and day today running of the affairs which he said was unacceptable.
Mr Sekitooleko was recently dismissed from Mbabazi's Go Forward Secretariat, which accused him of releasing vital information to the ruling party, in exchange for money.
The Secretariat also alleged that Sekitooleko was recruiting their members to join Museveni's camp. He however dismissed these charges as false.
"We were not sacked as they claim because we were the ones who invited delegates who attended the launch of the nomination for Mbabazi recently. We however realized that he was serving foreign interests, which was unpatriotic of him."
Disrupt Elections
The group who bragged of being the architects of the Go Forward structure right from the village level told journalists that contrary to the core objectives of the pressure group, there is an orchestrated scheme to disrupt elections by using riots, burning the city and demonstrations in a bid to attain power violently.
"We had trained over 40,000 vigilantes from Bugisu, Busoga and Teso regions ready to cause havoc during elections that we started recruiting 2 years ago preparing for 2016.We realized it was not a good scheme as far as peace is concerned in the country, "said the Teso region Go Forward team leader Charles Ojok.
Team Composition
According to Tumwine, the Go Forward structure across the country has members right from national level in all regions of the country with one national coordinator at the national secretariat.
"We had regional and assistant regional coordinators in the East, North, Central, and West ,Sub regional coordinators .There are coordinators at district, constituency, sub-county ,parish and village levels all over the country," he said .
He noted that in a bid to avoid detection and being penetrated, they had to create 3 parallel coordinators at each level so that if one is swept away by government operatives, the others ones remain intact.
He said the structure had leaders for all groups of people including youths, veterans, women, district leaders, faith-based leaders and people with disabilities.
Declare Campaign Against Mbabazi
The group said they know all the ins and outs and are ready to fight to see they are dismantled.
"We built the structures and now we are to dismantle them. We have now closed the Go Forward secretariat at Nakasero which caused panic in the camp forcing Mbabazi to go abroad due to the pressure. As time goes on, you will find many of us breaking the structures we built all over the country,"Tumwine told journalists.
They said they would now start a campaign to canvass for votes for President Museveni in the forthcoming 2016 general elections.
"We will ensure votes are protected at polling stations across the country since we know plans to rig votes on top of rehabilitating all the vigilantes and brigades that we had created."--

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
