Gulu. Officials from various Opposition parties have elected an 11-member task force to canvass votes for the Go Forward presidential candidate, Mr Amama Mbabazi, in Acholi sub-region.
The members from Democratic Party (DP), Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC), Justice Forum (Jeema), People's Progressive Party, Conservative Party and the Go Forward political group were elected on Wednesday in Gulu Town at a function presided over by the outgoing UPC president, Dr Olara Otunnu.
The task force comprises Mr Christopher Freddie Oyat (chairperson in charge of West Acholi) with Mr Christopher Layee Ting as his vice chairperson.
Others are: Mr Christopher Ouma (secretary) and Ambrose Ege (in charge of logistics), Mr Otto Omona (publicity) and Mr Keneth Oyet, in charge of youth affairs.
Addressing the press, Mr Oyat said the members will be tasked with setting up regional campaign offices for West Acholi districts of Amuru, Nwoya and Gulu to set smooth ground for Mr Mbabazi.
"I am pleased to announce that after a struggle, we have finally established a campaign task force for our presidential candidate Mr Mbabazi in the region. This will help us in making sure that Mr Mbabazi gets a landslide win in the February 18 election," said Mr Oyat.
Mr Otunnu said the taskforce will work closely with the national leadership of The Democratic Alliance, a political grouping that vainly sought to choose a joint Opposition presidential candidate between Mr Mbabazi and Dr Kizza Besigye of the Forum for Democratic Change.
Mr Otunnu said he had confidence in the team to help Mr Mbabazi become the next president.
Mr Mbabazi is expected to campaign in Gulu, Nwoya and Amuru districts next week.
Earlier visit
Mr Mbabazi, who had his first campaign visit in the region in November last year, attracted mammoth crowds who matched in processions to welcome him in Gulu Town. At a rally at Kaunda Grounds, Mr Mbabazi apologised to the residents over Shs1.4 billion for reconstruction of northern Uganda under the Peace Recovery and Development Plan, which was swindled by officials in the Prime Minister's office.

Isaac Onguu;

I tend to agree with the writer. This is not the first time women in Uganda have been reduced to fight the change battle with their private. Women who were groped by the police decided to walk with their breast out in protest. We saw that in Amuru and Teso but Lango. Women stripping in protest and its indeed a curse to the country. The professor, intent if true then shows that Uganda as a country is deep in the abyss, it needs cleansing and if it will take fire, the professor's choice of cleansing, so be it.

But importantly, I would like to see men emulate woman in their protest. To strip and walk naked in the street, as a protest to lack of change. This peaceful process of demonstration will i am sure, send Museveni running for the hills and beyond. So men should be prepared to walk naked in solidarity to our women if no change takes place.

She has gotten rid of all her vital organs and yet she persistently echoes her grief,breathing life and consistently carrying on the duties as instructed in the literal piece.The darkened flag is a symbol of the doom and fate that is to befall this ctry eroding the original brotherhood and natural good environment portended by the red and yellow colour of the flag.The nipples dug out in that manner symbolize a closure to life sustainance of the children to be born after.The brain cut out symbolise a sudden block out of our intellectual thought pattern.There will be no need of carrying brains since these have not been used to redeem the ctry.Placing the brains at the ceiling of the parliamentary building is an expression calling upon those in parliament to probably reclaim them since they have better use for them in the fight to reclaim freedoms of all kind in the ctry.Pulling out of fallopian tubes etc is an expression of displeasure in child birth.Producing chldn and exposing them to such uncertainty is a waste of time and resources.The manner in which the writer dehumanized her entire physical being in the article is an expression of the disappointment, disillusionment, frustration and ridicule or reprimand she has towards the failed political structure of which Mu7 is at the helm.So friend's don't read only the vulgarity in the article but rather the bitterness and determination with which she's ready to do whatever it takes to see change in the doomed ctry.For the record the writer will not take on the instructions in the article as mentioned but rather do whatever is humanely possible to change the course of events in this ctry.If her wish for change is not granted by the electorates she will surely be disappointed.
