TDA names 280 parliamentary candidates
GULU. Members of The Democratic Alliance (TDA) from various opposition political parties on Tuesday announced what they called a list of its 280 parliamentary candidates in the February 18 elections countrywide.
The list contains names drawn from Democratic Party, Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC), Justice Forum (Jeema), People's Progressive Party and Go Forward organisation of independent presidential candidate Amama Mbabazi, who is backed by the consortium.
The UPC party president, Mr Olara Otunnu, announced the team in Gulu town on Tuesday and issued TDA certificates for their candidates.
"I am very happy to unveil the comprehensive lists of our candidates who have been entrusted with the TDA flag for the entire country," Dr Otunnu said.
He later awarded TDA certificates of endorsement to its flag bearers within West Acholi region, which comprises Amuru, Nwoya and Gulu districts.
The candidates include: Last week, TDA also elected an 11-member task force to mobilise support for Mbabazi, who is expected to hold his final campaign in the region this month.
TDA candidates
Mr Tonny Kitara (Aswa County), Lyandro Komakech (Gulu Municipality), Grace Auma Okello (Amuru District Woman), Mr Peter Okot (Tochi County).
Others are: Ms Winnie Lawoko Olwe (Nwoya District Woman), Concy Adoch Nyapolo (Kilak North), Job Collins Okello (Omoro County) and Maria Shaka Lapolo (Gulu District Woman). The full list could not be published but the document Saturday Monitor saw contains 280 names countrywide although they could not be verified as TDA nominees.
