{UAH} Boutrous Boutrous Ghali dead at 93
Folks;
Dr. Ghali was a giant in many ways. As Egypt's foreign minister, he was one of the two FMs in African whose voices on any issue merited world-wide attention; the other was Pik Botha of South Africa.
I worked for him for one year at the UN, at a time of heightened tensions in Europe and Latin America. He was a jovial gentleman. Dr. Ghali was more inquisitive than his predecessor, and tasked us , his press team, to report to him on UN developments around the world every day by 6:30 AM.
That started the Breakfast Session: on a rotating system, two of us would meet the SG in his study room. If you arrived at 6:31 AM, you were late!
RIP, SG, you did your part against great obstructions by two of the five Permanent Members of the UN Security Council: US and UK.
