SV: {UAH} OBITUARY

OH, Lord, may "PATUDS" soula rest,

Okello Patuda (La Coo rom), was a close friend. He was very active executive member of many Ugandan associations in Stockholm, Sweden. Okello and I always had very hot but constructive debates only to chill afterwards and party together. We had much nice time together. I believe Patuds said the now popular business family in Gulu, KAKANYERO were his uncles.

I first met Okello in 1978 at the house of Lance Sierra Mwanga in Växjö during a Ugandan function. He had travelled from Stockholm in the company of the "gang" ((Ochan Acellam Jackson (RIP) Ongom Kalisa, Obwona (RIP) and Okot Alfons(RIP)). It turned out that both he and Jackson knew me one sidedly. They knew my history from my "babyhood" and I was so happy whenever they narrated it.

In Stockholm my brother Ciro was their common friend.

Okello Patuda's then wife, Irene Opira was a good friend. And Irene is of course, the daughter of the late Jeremiah Opira (formally deputy GSU director to Akena Adoko and later deputy Chairman of Musevenis then party. I believe "Patuds" was a local member assistant to UDA).
Opira (RIP) and my old man Nockrach (RIP) came and resettled in Sweden on the same day.
The "Gang", Ciro, Okello Patuda (RIP), Obwona, Okot Alfon, Ongom Kalissa and Ocan Jack Acelam did wonders in helping many, many, many Ugandan resettle in Stockholm and Uppsala.

I believe Patuda left Uganda to train as pilot in Greece TOWARDS THE END OF THE 1960S.

Rest in peace Patuds.

Announcing the passing away of our dear Uganda and Acholi community elder, Mr Philip Okelo Patuda. Patuda left us last Sunday approximately 4:00am after a 9 month battle with colon cancer. He sustained a fall several stairs waking up neighbors in the building who found him gasping for breath. Was stable in hospital for next two days until pneumonia struck. I went to see him him with a couple of friends only to find his unconscious on oxygen and all advanced life-saving gadgets beeping all around.

Those of us who knew him know him as a very wonderful counselor/adviser on a range of issues. Patuda was a Paralegal Lawyer who helped many in his capacities - often free. He is survived by a son in Ottawa, Canada and two daughters in Sweden. He was also a certified pilot. We will miss Philip Okelo Patuda.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.

"But this I know, UPC believed and still believes in
very high education. We can call Obote all bad names we have, but the bottom line remains that he got more scholarships for Buganda than all previous Uganda leaders combined. That includes Sir Edward Mutesa, President Lule, President Binayisa, up to and into Ssabasajja Mutebi. Who all happen to be Baganda leaders." Mulindwa
