In Summary

Hesitant. The Kitgum Municipality Woman MP-elect says she would remain Independent until certain matters are resolved in FDC.

Kitgum. Kitgum Municipality MP-elect Beatrice Atim Anywar has insisted she does not belong to Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) despite the party's Deputy President Reagan Okumu telling the public she still is.
On Tuesday last week, Mr Okumu who is also Aswa County MP-elect, while addressing a press briefing in Gulu Town, said Ms Anywar was still part of the FDC.
He added that Ms Anywar's fallout with the party was 'just a misunderstanding' that had been resolved.
"Forget what happened last time, our sister Ms Anywar is still part of the FDC party. What happened was just a misunderstanding which had been sorted," Mr Okumu said.

However during a telephone interview on Wednesday, Ms Anywar refuted being part of FDC and said she would remain an Independent politician until certain matters are resolved within the party.
"Why do they say I am part of them (FDC) after realising that I won the election? What would have happened if I had lost the elections? I am still Independent and I will continue being Independent even though I still hold the party card," Ms Anywar said.
The former Kitgum District Woman MP added that she will never go back to FDC if the issues are not resolved.

Ms Anywar accused the FDC executives of being "ungrateful" considering several sacrifices she made for the party.
"I am planning to seek legal redress so that the party pays back my money that had been deducted from my salary while I was still MP subscribing to the party," Ms Anywar said.
The FDC electoral commission chairperson, Mr Dan Mugarura, said Ms Anywar is free to go to court and added that FDC is a big party that cannot shake by desertion of one member.
Ms Anywar won Kitgum Municipality MP with 2,941 votes, defeating FDC's official candidate Denis Onekalit Amere.

The genesis
Ms Anywar's troubles with FDC began last year during the nomination of presidential candidates when she chose to endorse Mr Amama Mbabazi of the Go Forward pressure group, instead of her party candidate Kizza Besigye. The trouble followed her to the municipality MP race when FDC dumped her as the party flag bearer.
