An angry mob has lynched a man in Tharaka-Nithi County after he allegedly stole a hen.

Eric Mutembei from Mbuiru Village was attacked by a mob after he was suspected to have stolen a hen from a homestead near Mariani Secondary School.

The 28-year-old man was beaten and burnt using petrol by the irate residents.

Meru South District OCPD Beatrice Kiraguri told journalists that police found the suspect already dead when they arrived at the scene after receiving the information.

She said the remains were taken to Chuka General Hospital mortuary.

She warned the public against taking the law into their own hands.

"We have launched investigations on the incident and we warn members of public against killing suspects," said Ms Kiraguri.

A resident, Mr John Muriungi, said the man had been stealing from them since he was in primary school.

"People were tired of the young man because he has been breaking houses and stealing small things like chicken and foodstuffs," said Mr Muriungi.

"But this I know, UPC believed and still believes in
very high education. We can call Obote all bad names we have, but the bottom line remains that he got more scholarships for Buganda than all previous Uganda leaders combined. That includes Sir Edward Mutesa, President Lule, President Binayisa, up to and into Ssabasajja Mutebi. Who all happen to be Baganda leaders." Mulindwa
