Video in Which Soldiers Kill Protesters Sparks Outrage in Uganda
KAMPALA – A video published by NBC television network showing soldiers from the Ugandan security forces shoot at demonstrators and kill at least one has sparked public outrage.
At least seven people have died amid clashes between security forces and protesters in the district of Kasese due to alleged disputes related to the elections, held on Feb. 18.
Lt. Col Shaban Bantariza, the government spokesman, accused the local population of attacking policemen and soldiers with spears, machetes and stones, leaving four officers wounded.
The video, which shows how soldiers opened fire randomly at protesters who were throwing stones, was heavily criticized for the lack of the security forces' readiness to deal with crowds.
Bantariza said that the Ugandan society has polarized after the elections that were described as "farce" by the opposition parties.
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni won the elections with large majority and will continue to lead his country for other five years after more than three decades in power.

very high education. We can call Obote all bad names we have, but the bottom line remains that he got more scholarships for Buganda than all previous Uganda leaders combined. That includes Sir Edward Mutesa, President Lule, President Binayisa, up to and into Ssabasajja Mutebi. Who all happen to be Baganda leaders." Mulindwa
