Opposition Democratic Party (DP) have expressed distaste for the meeting held between the President Yoweri Museveni and the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Councilors over the weekend which was reportedly aimed at getting their names on the Government Gazette.
The party mouth piece, Kenneth Paul Kakande told the media in Kampala on Tuesday that Museveni had no authority to invite the KCCA leaders because they are all at the same status like him waiting to be gazetted and sworn in.
"Museveni equally has no powers to either grant or reject their names appearing in the Government Gazette, these are constitutional provisions; we are disappointed that Museveni hasn't utilized the Constitution which the Democratic Party brought him," Kakande said.
The President on Sunday met 275 KCCA councilors from the five divisions of Kampala namely Central, Nakawa, Makindye, Rubaga and Kawempe.
The Councilors sought the president's intervention since the Electoral Commission has delayed gazetting them following a court petition by a one Mulindwa Muwonge challenging the election of political leaders in KCCA which is not a district.
